What do you say about yourself?

wisdom challenge day 13

He who watches over his mouth guards his being;
But he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

Proverbs 13:3 (TS2009)

This verse can mean a lot of things. Particularly though it reminds me of how often we curse ourselves without even realizing it.

Everywhere I go I run into people saying things like:

“I’m such an idiot…” /
“I’m know I’m fat and ugly…” /
“This is killing me…” /
or the worst– “Well I’ll be damned…”

Gosh, that last one makes me cringe every time…

Regardless of our intensions and how ‘innocent’ we think it to be, our words do have power and they shape our perceptions about ourselves, our environment, and people around us.

Our words train our subconscious thinking and fuel self-fulfilling prophecies. This is when you expect a certain behavior or outcome from either yourself or someone else, and that expectations causes subconscious reactions and perceptions that reenforce and eventually bring about that expected outcome; good or bad.

Some of the more mainstream themes related to this concept are…

“Speaking things into existence…” /
“If you repeat a lie over and over eventually you’ll believe it…” /
“Life and death are in the power of the tongue…” /

And the list goes on!

I want you to take moment and think about your life; your situation; your goals; and then ask yourself:

What types of things are you saying about yourself?
What are you saying about your situation?
What are you saying about your dreams and aspirations?

Do you tell yourself you don’t have a choice in some matter? or that a particular situation you’re in will never change?

Anything negative that you tell yourself, take note of it and find a way to make it positive. You may feel a little delusional at first depending on what the thing is but that’s okay.

Overtime you’ll train yourself to have more positive self-talk and just wait and see how that changes your life.

Hope this helps you– Happy Sabbath, friends. Ciao!

The biggest obstacle to overcome in life
is your own mind.
