Wisdom Challenge: Day 7

Insights from Chapter 7–

With her enticing speech she caused him to yield,
with her flattering lips she seduced him.
Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter…

Proverbs 7:21-22 (NKJV)

My Little Secret

My longest streak of getting drunk every single day was 30 days– I believe it was in October. On the 31st day I was too sick to go in to work so I had to call the office to let them know I couldn’t make it.

I was in the Navy at the time and this was a ballsy move. Despite my secret drinking problem, I had excellent performance evals, a great work ethic and some shiny-ass boots. The Operations Officer didn’t feel the need to ask too many questions– thankfully (I think).

This post is not intended to deep-dive into my history with alcohol. Maybe I’ll go into that another time. The point, is that alcohol was that enticing woman for me. My woman in the red dress if you will…

woman in the red dress, Matrix

Her name was Belvedere.

And like an ox, she lead me to a place of dependency and depression. I could find no peace when I was with her; I could find no pleasure when I was without her.

She tried to destroy me, and it’s only by the grace of Yah (God) I made it out alive.

Never Too Late

Maybe there’s a woman (or a man) whispering in your ear. It could be an actual person, sure; but it could also be secret addiction–
One that calls your name so gently that your heart drops in your chest and all you feel is the passionate desire to do something you know you’ll later regret.

The crazy thing about it is that in the moment you just don’t give a darn.

Everything we need to have peace is within us– we just gotta have the courage to seek it out.

May the peace of our Creator be with you in your journey.
