A man of truth has many blessings,
But one in a hurry to be rich does not go unpunished.
Proverbs 28:20 (TS2009)
In my posts I often reference the hustle culture that seems to permeate the entrepreneur community.
So what is it exactly?
In short, hustle culture is the mindset of making the most amount of money with the least amount of effort in the quickest way possible.
And if we’re not careful, even the most well-intentioned entrepreneurs can fall into the trap of compromise– bending our values for just a little more cash and a little more followers.
Just take a look at the entertainment industry. I remember when Taylor Swift started her career as that sweet little southern belle and now she’s a completely different person.
Before anyone starts throwing stones, I’m not bashing Taylor Swift, it’s only an analogy.
The point is, it’s easy to make little compromises here and there, especially when we see other people doing “a lot worse” and they seem to get away with in.
The truth is, no one gets away with it. We’ll all give an account and when that day comes, it will not be relative. We will not be judged based on our comparison to other people, but according to the never-changing standard of our Creator.
That should be all the reason for us to take a few steps back and examine our pursuits in life– what they are and why we’re pursuing them.
Success– contrary to popular misconception– does not equate to rightness; and a few small compromises over time lead to big regrets.
