Do not fret because of evildoers,
Nor be envious of the wicked;
For there will be no prospect for the evil man;
The lamp of the wicked will be put out.
Proverbs 24:19-20 (NKJV)
Many people have those go-to verses that give them comfort. That’s this one for me.
It’s easy to look around at those people who are absolute jerks with no moral compass, and see that they seem to have all the status items of success– be it clout, cash, social validation, whatever.
Proverbs 24 is a reminder not to envy these people nor to desire the things that they have because anything that’s gained unrighteously will ultimately be taken away.
Likewise, material possessions do a poor job at portraying an inward state. Someone can have all the money in the world but not be able to sleep at night because of how they got it.
As the saying goes, what good is it to gain the whole world if you lose your soul in the end?
It’s all summed up with contentment. Regardless of where we may be in life, being content is of great value. It brings you peace.
In due time the records will be set straight and the scales will be balanced. Until then, keep striving after your goals and enjoy the process. Stay faithful and it will all pay off in the end.
