You Know What’s Best

choice, outcome, yours

He who gets wisdom loves his own soul;
He who keeps understanding will find good.

Proverbs 19:8

Today, I had to service two clients for my business, make connections in the community for another organization I work with, and knock out other personal objectives (like this blog post).

Usually this isn’t an issue, but this morning I felt like crap and didn’t want to get out of bed early because last night I thought it was a good idea to attend two karaoke events instead of one… On a Thursday night…

Reading the Proverb today made me think of how unwise it was for me to be out late knowing that I had obligations today. I wasn’t being very loving to my soul but I’m thankful to make it through the day. It was a little more painful than necessary but I did that to myself.

Wisdom is when you actually apply knowledge to your life. I know that if I plan to be awake at 4:20am, I need to be in bed by 9pm– 10 at the absolute latest! Despite this, I chose to sing karaoke until 1am. The consequences I’m now experiencing make it abundantly clear to me that I made an unwise decision.

I still accomplished everything I needed to do– seeing as I have no choice– but it was 100x harder than what it had to be.

It’s like that with a lot of things in life…

We know what’s best for us most of the time (we adults) and yet we decide for the now and complain about the consequences later.

There are genuine mistakes made from ignorance and there are decisions we make that we know will have poor outcomes yet we do it anyway.

Word of advice– especially to myself: Don’t be foolish.
