A man who is in honor, yet does not understand,
Is like the beasts that perish.

Psalm 49:20

Why is it that the proud man boasts?
And highly esteems the cost of his riches?

Is it not that he has forgotten–
Neither doth he consider
That he came into this world through no will of his own.

Though he praises the works of his own hands,
The fool says in his heart,
“Is it not by my glory that I have done these things–
And not this honor of my own getting?”

Yet in an hour unannounced will God require his soul.
What good are riches then?
For man cannot stay the call of Sheol,
Nor can he redeem the years of his life with gold.

Like a rabbit in a snare,
So shall he perish.
Poor and rich alike–
All are equal in the grave.

Selah.
